BIO
Poland’s Marcin Horecki has a colorful background, with international skiing, corporate finance and Magic: The Gathering all featuring on his resume. Horecki was a member of Poland’s National Alpine Ski Team, winning several medals, before injury forced him into the banking world. He also began to play the trading card game Magic, and like many Magic players before him, he soon moved into poker where the rewards are significantly higher.
Marcin began on the play money tables on PokerStars before moving to low stakes cash games and grinding his way to a bankroll. His breakthrough live performance came in 2006 when he came 11th in the €1,000 No Limit Hold’em event at the Barcelona Open. He took home $3,927 for that effort, a success which pushed him to play poker professionally.
Online, Horecki is a fearsome opponent and he put in a solid performance at the 2008 PokerStars World Championship of Online Poker, cashing on six occasions, the highlight of which was a 76th place finish from a field of 1,159 for $2,482 in Event 23, the $530 No Limit Hold’em.
A money finish at the World Series of Poker* is an achievement high on the list for most poker players and Marcin accomplished that feat in 2008 when he finished 82nd in the $1,500 No Limit Hold'em event, cashing for $5,569. Results such as this, combined with his 30th place at the PokerStars European Poker Tour in Copenhagen in 2007, showed that Horecki’s career was definitely going in the right direction.
Horecki hit the big time in October 2008 when he came third at the EPT London Main Event at the Victoria Grosvenor Casino. Horecki cashed for £303,439, ($532,111), in the £5,000 buy-in tournament after negotiating a field of 596 of the world’s best poker players. This money finish was a supercharged achievement for Horecki, and massively boosted his career live tournament winnings to date, to a new total of $647,199.
This latest success puts Horecki firmly on the map – he is second on the all-time money list for Polish players, and his career looks set to go from strength to strength. He is a member of Team PokerStars Pro and plays online using the screen name ‘Goral’.
